About Jan

Artist/Writer Jan B. Parker lives and works on the coast of North Carolina. Her writing and art are greatly inspired by the wild beauty of Harlowe Creek and the ever-moody waters of the Newport River.

Jan’s art may be found in private homes and businesses across the state and a few of her publishing credentials include Glint Literary Journal, Germ Magazine, South Writ Large, Change Seven Magazine, and Shark Reef Magazine.

Jan’s Hard Times and Happenstance won First Place Novella for the Press 53 Open Awards in 2010. For six years after, Jan, Laura Towne, and Nancy Young hosted Third Thursday Open Mic Night for Poets and Writers, a popular gathering of same.

She received the 2016 Professional Development Award from the United Arts Council of Raleigh/Wake County, and in 2020, Jan founded The Writer’s Exchange and zoomed with it until 2022.

She is a member of the NC Writers Network, the NC Writers Conference, and The Authors Guild Foundation. Her current critique group is Renegade Writers.

Jan is Fiction Editor for The Main Street Rag Quarterly and a third-year reader for CutBank Literary Journal.
